Subject: | Ensuring Healthy Families - Expanding Maternal Home Visiting |
We have no greater responsibility as legislators than to ensure the health and wellbeing of Pennsylvania’s families. Study after study shows that our new and expanding families are more in need of connection and resources than ever. One proven way to support these families to raise healthy children is the evidence-based maternal, infant, and early childhood home visiting program. The Maternal, infant, and early childhood home visiting program aims to improve maternal and child health, prevent abuse and neglect, and reduce crime and domestic violence by providing information on safe pregnancy practices, breastfeeding support, early language development, parenting skills, and continuing education opportunities. Pennsylvania is eligible for federal funding to support this program and my legislation directs the Department of Human Services to create and share a five year plan to extend these services to all eligible families that we as a legislature can take action on and implement. |
