MEMORANDUM

From: Representative Tarik Khan and Rep. Anthony A. Bellmon, Rep. Gina H. Curry, Rep. Carol Hill-Evans, Rep. Christopher M. Rabb, Rep. Jared G. Solomon, Rep. Darisha K. Parker, Rep. Carol Kazeem
To: All House members
Subject: Urging Congress and the President to Direct Additional Aid and Support to Haiti

Haiti, a Caribbean nation of 12 million people, is currently undergoing a humanitarian crisis. The country has no democratically elected leaders. Both houses of its parliament are entirely unfilled, and Haiti has not had a President since its last, Jovenel Moïse, was assassinated in 2021. Over 150,000 people have been displaced by gang violence, and underfunded police officers are unable to combat the violence. In addition, the nation is experiencing widespread food insecurity and a cholera outbreak.

With the dire situation in Haiti worsening, help from the United States is more critical than ever. That is why we are introducing a resolution to urge the United States Congress and President Biden to direct additional humanitarian aid to Haiti and, with Haitians, the Haitian Diaspora, and national and international stakeholders and partners, lead a diplomatic solution to the crisis.

Philadelphia is among the top locations in the United States for Haitian immigrants, and it is in the best interest of both of our countries if Haiti is more prosperous, more secure, and more firmly rooted in democracy. Please join us in co-sponsoring this important resolution to help the millions of Haitians facing crisis. Thank you for your consideration.
