Subject: | Resolution Designating September 2023 as “Emergency Preparedness Month” |
In the near future, we plan on introducing a resolution designating September 2023 as “Emergency Preparedness Month” in Pennsylvania. Each year, the President of the United States proclaims the month of September as “National Emergency Preparedness Month” to stress the importance of strengthening the security and resiliency of our nation through systemic preparation for the wide range of hazards that threaten the United States in the 21st century, including national disasters, cyber-attacks, pandemic diseases, and acts of terrorism. The Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA) website ready.gov and the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency’s (PEMA) website ready.pa.gov provide information on how to create a plan in the event of an emergency. The websites also include access to a variety of resources available to help educate individuals on how to prepare for, and handle, various disasters. Our resolution urges Pennsylvania residents to observe “Emergency Preparedness Month” and encourages them to visit the websites of FEMA and PEMA and utilize educational resources to learn how they can become better prepared for emergencies. We hope you will join us in support of this important resolution. |
