Subject: | Recognizing October 10 as “Taiwan National Day” |
Taiwan, similar to the United States, is a nation of many influences. Its diverse culture can be found in traditional Chinese opera performed in concert halls, indigenous religious rites, and the medley of languages—Mandarin, Taiwanese, and Japanese—spoken by its people. More than 374,000 Taiwanese individuals reside in the United States, sharing Taiwanese culture with their communities. In celebrations of the contributions of our Taiwanese neighbors, I am introducing a resolution recognizing October 10, 2023, as “Taiwan National Day” in Pennsylvania. This is a day that marks the end of imperial rule in China and celebrates Taiwan’s multicultural identity. Traditionally, foreign ambassadors and dignitaries have been invited to join the Taiwanese people in their celebrations. In that spirit, I hope you will join me in recognizing October 10, 2023, as “Taiwan National Day” in Pennsylvania. |
