MEMORANDUM

Posted: February 6, 2023 02:50 PM
From: Representative Martin T. Causer
To: All House members
Subject: Energy Freedom Legislation

Energy production is key to growing our economy. In Pennsylvania we have abundant energy resources that give us the ability to be an energy powerhouse. We must remain focused on maximizing energy production from all sources, including fossil fuels, to continue growing our economy.

Unfortunately, recent comments from federal officials have led to concerns that the federal government may take action to ban certain types of stoves or appliances based on the type of energy that they use. The governor of New York has announced that she would pursue legislation banning natural gas stoves, furnaces and other appliances throughout that state.

It is not the role of government to be dictating to individuals and businesses what kind of appliances we are allowed to have or not have to cook our food or heat our homes and businesses. Taking these drastic actions will greatly impact the lives of everyday citizens. It is important to make clear that we will not tolerate this in Pennsylvania.

This legislation will prohibit the Commonwealth and municipalities from taking any action to ban certain appliances based on the type of energy they use. Pennsylvanians deserve better than to have their freedom restricted by an overly involved government that thinks it knows better than they do.

Please join me in cosponsoring this important legislation.
