Subject: | Elimination of Filing Fee for Delegate to National Convention |
Every presidential election year, both the Democratic and Republican parties hold national conventions to officially nominate their candidate for president of the United States. Some convention delegates and alternates are elected by voters on the primary election ballot. These candidates must circulate nominating petitions and pay a $25 filing fee to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Conversely, delegates and alternates selected by the party are not required to circulate petitions or pay a fee. I am seeking to level the playing field by amending the Pennsylvania Election Code to eliminate the $25 filing fee for those delegates and alternates who have been elected. This will eliminate a potential financial barrier for those who desire to fully participate in the national conventional process. Please join me in supporting this legislation. |
