MEMORANDUM

Posted: January 19, 2023 11:34 AM
From: Representative Jose Giral
To: All House members
Subject: Blood Lead Tests for All Children

Lead poisoning is a serious affliction that has especially dire consequences for children. Symptoms of lead poisoning in children include developmental delays, seizures, nervous system damage, and more. Current state law requires the blood lead testing of children determined to be at risk of lead poisoning by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

My bill will expand current requirements to ensure that all children are tested for lead poisoning at 12 and 24 months of age, and more frequently if considered to be high risk. This is important for ensuring that no children slip between the cracks and suffer from lead poisoning, putting them at a significant disadvantage for the rest of their lives.

Please join me in co-sponsoring this legislation to protect all children.

Introduced as HB825
