Subject: | Property Tax Rent Rebates for Multi-Person Households |
As we know, senior citizens in Pennsylvania are increasingly struggling to stay in their homes due to rising property taxes and the increasing cost of living. With the median property tax in Pennsylvania at $2,223 per year, these increases to living costs are not as easily absorbed by those living on lower and fixed incomes. Often, married couples, or those living in multi-person households, are not eligible for the Property Tax Rent Rebate (PTRR) program due to their combined income. It is unfair for these Pennsylvanians to be left without the assistance that they need, which is why I am introducing legislation that would impose a multi-person household income limit for the PTRR program, separate from a single-person household income limit. The current income limits would remain for single-person households, while multi-person household income limits would increase to $55,000 for homeowners and $22,500 for renters. Please join me in ensuring that struggling seniors in Pennsylvania are provided with the assistance they need, no matter what type of household they live in.
