MEMORANDUM

Subject: Geolocation Student Attendance System for Cyber Schools.

Accurate enrollment in cyber schools is of utmost importance for school finance, as funding per student can differ significantly across various school districts. Currently, cyber schools offer online instruction to students, irrespective of their geographic location. However, this has raised concerns among school districts because some students enroll in a district, relocate, and continue to utilize district resources, impacting the district's allocation of resources and straining finances.

Furthermore, regular school attendance plays a vital role in students' ability to succeed and fulfill their potential. There is a statistically significant positive relationship between consistent attendance and various educational and lifelong outcomes.

To address these issues, my proposed bill will establish a methodology for cyber schools to monitor and track student participation and attendance. By implementing a geolocation system, we can detect and confirm the physical location of students within their respective school districts of residence when they access the online learning management system of a cyber school.

I ask that you join me in supporting this legislation.
