MEMORANDUM

To: All House members
Subject: Nurse Practitioner Week in Pennsylvania

Nurse practitioners (NPs), also known as Certified Registered Nurse Practitioners (CRNP) in Pennsylvania, are incredibly important professionals in the health care field. They go through extensive training in nearly every medical specialty, including cardiology and mental health. Not only do they provide primary care to patients, but they can also diagnose, prescribe medications, offer counsel, provide education, and much more.

The NP profession was first established in 1965. Since then, it has grown to include more than 355,000 licensed NPs in the United States. Since the year 2000, NPs have been allowed to legally practice in all 50 states. However, NPs still face barriers to practice that many lawmakers have attempted to rectify in recent years.

NPs deserve the same care and appreciation they provide for their patients every day. To celebrate and raise awareness for this essential profession, I am introducing a concurrent resolution designating November 13 to 19, 2022, as “Nurse Practitioner Week” in Pennsylvania.

I encourage you to join me in co-sponsoring this resolution to honor these hard working professionals’ ongoing contributions to health care in Pennsylvania.
