MEMORANDUM

Posted: September 20, 2022 12:33 PM
From: Representative Tommy Sankey
To: All House members
Subject: Petty Officer Iral William Stoltz Memorial Bridge

In the near future I plan to introduce legislation designating a bridge on Number Nine Road in Susquehanna Township, Cambria County as the Petty Officer Iral William Stoltz, Memorial Bridge. Iral enlisted in the US Navy prior to Pearl Harbor. He was a Petty Officer First Class, Fireman First Class, serving on the USS Kearny. Shortly after midnight on October 17, 1941 the USS Kearny was attacked by a wolfpack of German U-Boats while escorting a convoy.Petty Officer Iral W. Stoltz was one of eleven sailors killed in action that night, and was Cambria County's first casualty of WWII. Stoltz was posthumously awarded the Purple Heart.

Please join me in recognizing this veteran and his sacrifice.

Introduced as HB2862
