MEMORANDUM

Posted: June 13, 2022 10:31 AM
From: Representative Joshua D. Kail and Rep. Torren C. Ecker, Rep. Timothy J. O'Neal
To: All House members
Subject: Impeaching Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner

We are seeking support for Articles of Impeachment we plan to file against Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner in the near future.

We did not arrive at this decision lightly, but the unchecked violent crime in Philadelphia has reached a breaking point and one obvious cause is the dereliction of duty by District Attorney Krasner in the willful refusal to enforce Pennsylvania’s criminal laws in the City of Philadelphia. The statistics speak for themselves.  As of June 5, 2022, there have been nearly 1,000 people who have been injured or killed with firearms in the city, most of them illegally possessed. According to the Philadelphia Police Department, over last year, shooting incidents are up over eight percent and shooting victims are up almost seven percent. Total violent crimes are up over six percent, property crimes are up over 27 percent, and total crime is up over 22 percent.

These same shocking levels of violence simply are not repeated throughout other whole counties of the Commonwealth despite the same reasonable statewide firearm restrictions being in place.   The difference?  In Philadelphia, the District Attorney willfully chooses not to enforce our criminal law, and thus ignores his own sworn duty to uphold the law.

San Francisco voters recently recalling District Attorney Chesa Boudin due to his progressive prosecutorial policies and similar choices to ignore his duty to enforce the law, which contributed to a horrific pike in crime there.  We cannot allow Larry Krasner's dereliction of duty to claim more victims in our home state.   For the sake of Philadelphians and Pennsylvanians at large, it is incumbent upon us to make sure our laws are enforced. It is incumbent upon us to stop District Attorney Larry Krasner.

To hear from the people of Pennsylvania who have been impacted by the District Attorney’s actions, we have set up a publicly accessible website where people can submit their stories: www.stopkrasner.com

We hope you will join us in standing up for the rule of law, and for the safety of our communities, by supporting the forthcoming Articles of Impeachment.
