Subject: | Recognizing April 24 – 30, 2022 as National Infertility Awareness Week |
Infertility is a widespread problem, affecting 1 in 8 couples in the U.S. trying to conceive. Recognized as a disease by the World Health Organization, infertility affects individuals of all ages, genders, and races. Infertility among our veterans is also common, with the Department of Veterans Affairs reporting fertility issues in 15.8 percent of female veterans and 13.8 percent of male veterans. Yet, despite the prevalence of fertility issues in our society, talking about this subject has remained taboo. For those facing difficult decisions related to infertility, raising awareness helps reduce the stigma associated with the disease. As such, we will be introducing a resolution designating the week of April 24-30, 2022 as National Infertility Awareness Week in Pennsylvania to help break down the stigma of infertility and bring further awareness to the issues those struggling to build families face. Please join us in supporting families by promoting infertility awareness across the commonwealth. |
