Subject: A Resolution to Provide Support and Humanitarian Aid to Poland During the Ukrainian Refugee Crisis

Europe currently faces one of the largest refugee crises since World War II. Since the beginning of the unprovoked Russian invasion of Ukraine, nearly 3 million people have fled their homes; many crossing hundreds of miles to reach safety. As of today, over 1.8 million Ukrainian refugees have entered Poland – enough people to match the entire population of Warsaw.

The United States has only accepted a small number of refugees thus far, allowing Poland and other European allies to face the forefront of this emergency. Therefore, I plan on introducing a resolution to urge Congress and President Biden to direct humanitarian aid to Poland to assist the millions of Ukrainian refugees abroad and to increase admission of Ukrainian refugees here in America.

Pennsylvania’s dynamic and vibrant history was made, in part, by Polish immigrants and their descendants. Many of our communities have sister cities in Poland, and as their ally we ought to do everything in our power to support them. Join me in solidary with Poland and the millions of Ukrainian refugees seeking safety by encouraging Congress and the President to take quick action on easing the humanitarian crisis unfolding in Europe.
