|Subject:||Recognizing Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day January 17th, 2022, as a “Day of Service”|
|Dr. Martin Luther King is widely regarded as America’s pre-eminent advocate of nonviolence and one of the greatest nonviolent leaders in world history. His message of non-violence aimed at securing equal protection for all, regardless of race. The power of his words touched the American conscious and advanced the cause of civil rights and justice, in most profound measures.
To commemorate and honor the legacy of the man who was MLK, Members of the Pennsylvania Legislative Black Caucus will introduce a resolution recognizing January 17th, 2022, as the “Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day” as a “Day of Service” in Pennsylvania. And call to all to mark this day and give back to others.
Dr. King devoted his life to fighting segregation and racial injustice by nonviolent means. He was instrumental in affecting change to public policy. His advocacy was instrumental to the passage of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the Voting Rights Act of 1965, and other anti-discrimination laws aimed at ending economic, legal, and social segregation in America. His personal sacrifices and efforts were awarded with the Nobel Peace Prize in 1964 and remain a source of inspiration for all Americans.
