Subject: Expanded Workers’ Compensation Coverage for Permanent Disfigurement

Imagine being permanently scarred or disfigured on the job and not being eligible for workers’ compensation.  This is the situation that a worker in Pennsylvania may face if the disfigurement occurs below the neck.  While these injuries may not be visible under normal circumstances, they can still cause substantial physical and emotional distress for the injured worker.

My bill will resolve this oversight in the Workers’ Compensation Act and ensure that workers who are permanently scarred or disfigured below the neck are still eligible for up to 400 weeks of workers’ compensation.  In addition, this bill will extend existing workers’ compensation eligibility for permanent disfigurement to the head, face, or neck from 275 weeks to 400 weeks.

Workers should be covered for permanent scarring and disfigurement regardless of where it occurs on the body.  Please join me in fixing this loophole in Pennsylvania’s workers’ compensation system.
