Subject: Workers’ Compensation Direct Deposit
 
In the near future, we plan on introducing legislation that would allow for Workers’ Compensation payments to be paid to claimants by a direct deposit to a bank account or to a debit card. These types of payment methods would be similar to the methods that are currently used to pay benefits to those that qualify for Unemployment Compensation.

Making these payment methods available to claimants would decrease the risk of checks being delayed in the mail as well as reduce costs associated with printing and mailing checks.

This change was recommended by the Workers’ Compensation Advisory Council (WCAC) and received a unanimous vote of support by the board.
