Subject: | Donor Privacy |
In the near future, I plan to introduce legislation known as “The Personal Privacy Protection Act.” Individuals who associate with 501(c) non-profit charitable organizations through membership, donations, or other means often do so out of personal conviction. For many reasons, including personal safety, anonymity, or some other reason, individuals associated with charitable organizations value their right to privacy. The Personal Privacy Protection Act will ensure the protection of donor’s, member’s, and volunteer’s personal information. Specifically, this legislation will prevent a public agency from requiring individuals or organizations to provide personal information except as required under law. This protection extends to any entity exempt from federal income tax under Section 501(c) and individuals associated with those entities. Please join me in protecting personal privacy by co-sponsoring this important piece of legislation. |
