Subject: | Student loan forgiveness for first responders during COVID-19 pandemic |
Front line workers and first responders have served diligently and heroically throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. That is why I intend to introduce legislation to establish a student loan forgiveness program, to provide some financial relief to those on the front lines during this crisis. Active first responders and life-sustaining workers, including individuals who work for an ambulance or EMS service, volunteer fire company, volunteer rescue company, or other first responder service, would be eligible to apply for student loan forgiveness. For those who no longer have student loans, the bill would also provide for a benefit transfer to a child of the eligible worker. In these uncertain times, I believe that allowing for limited student loan relief to front line workers would provide them with some financial security. This in turn would allow them to focus on their careers and their families, while providing life-saving services to Pennsylvanians. Please join me in co-sponsoring this legislation. |
