MEMORANDUM

Posted: September 16, 2021 11:19 AM
From: Representative Manuel Guzman, Jr. and Rep. Danilo Burgos, Rep. Liz Hanbidge, Rep. Benjamin V. Sanchez
To: All House members
Subject: Pennsylvania’s Hispanic Heritage Month

Since 1968, people across the nation have taken time to honor of the cultures and contributions of Americans who trace their roots back to Spain, Mexico, Central America, South America, and Spanish-speaking Caribbean nations. With nearly one million Hispanics calling Pennsylvania home, Hispanic Heritage Month offers us all the opportunity to celebrate the rich culture and significant economic benefit which Hispanic communities have brought to our state.

I will soon be introducing a concurrent resolution that designates September 15 through October 15, 2021, as Hispanic Heritage Month in Pennsylvania. This month coincides with the anniversary of independence for many of the Spanish-speaking nations in the Americas as well as Día de la Raza, which is celebrated on October 12. This legislation, which calls attention to the many ways in which we rely on Hispanic individuals in our military, workforce, and communities, will encourage all Pennsylvanians to honor Hispanic culture and history through learning, service, and celebration.

Pennsylvania’s Hispanic communities have been faithful servants to our mission and values and have been active participants in the history and culture of this state. I hope you will join me in celebrating these communities by standing together to recognize Hispanic Heritage Month.
