|Subject:||Real Assistance to Expand Broadband Internet Grants|
|Affordable access to quality broadband internet is a necessity in our modern world. Yet, many rural areas and numerous urban communities across our Commonwealth have been left behind with lagging internet speed and poor broadband availability. Without reliable internet access, many workers, local businesses, and students are given an unfair disadvantage in an increasingly digital world. It is time we ensure reliable broadband internet to all Pennsylvanians, regardless of where they live.
That is why I am proposing we use $500 million dollars of the American Rescue Plan to ensure all Pennsylvanians have a decent internet speed and bring some equity and fairness to this service. Funneling this aid to the Unserved High-Speed Broadband Funding Program is an excellent way to ensure that those who are being left out of broadband internet will have access to these vital services. Unfortunately, we missed an opportunity to properly fund these ventures during the recent budget process. We cannot let another opportunity slide past us.
I ask that you join me in co-sponsoring this legislation and ensuring all communities across our Commonwealth have equal access to reliable broadband internet.
