MEMORANDUM

Posted: May 27, 2021 10:42 AM
From: Representative Frank A. Farry
To: All House members
Subject: Fireworks Law (Prior HB 1687)

In the near future, I plan to reintroduce legislation to modify the fireworks law.  My office has received many complaints about fireworks activity from residents, especially seniors, veterans, parents with small children and people with pets.  I believe we can make adjustments to the law to help ensure public safety and peace, which would:
  • Offer specific guidance to local governments on reasonable controls for the sale and use of fireworks.
  • Implement constraints on the times of day that fireworks can be discharged.
  • Provide notice to consumers purchasing fireworks that there are state requirements for setbacks for use, permission to use property, timeframes for use, etc., and that there may be further municipal limitations.
  • Increase the criminal penalties for selling or using consumer fireworks in violation of the Act.
This legislation would fulfill part of the recommendation of the SR 6 Commission.

I hope you will join me in cosponsoring this legislation.  Thank you for your consideration.

Introduced as HB2157
