Subject: | Removing Barriers to Accessing Employment at VGT Truck Stops |
In the near future I will be introducing legislation that would clarify that the term “gaming employee” does not include an employee of a VGT truck stop establishment licensee. The cumbersome “gaming employee” application process makes it incredibly difficult for these truck stops to hire convenience store employees. These convenience store employees are involved with service to customers, running a register, food prep and fuel transactions. These convenience store employees are not handling VGT money. Compounded with the COVID-19 pandemic, truck stops and many other businesses around the Commonwealth are experiencing great difficulties in finding people to fill open positions. The “gaming employee” application process is an additional burden that makes it even more difficult for VGT truck stops to fill open convenience store positions. It was not the intent of the General Assembly to create barriers to accessing employment. The state does not require a similar arduous application hiring process for employees of lottery retailers. Please consider joining me in co-sponsoring this critical fix to the current law. |
