Subject: | Chemicals in Drinking Water |
Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) are a group of man-made chemicals that have been used in the manufacturing of many different products since the 1940s. These chemicals can enter our bodies through drinking water, which can have significant long-term effects, such as low infant birth weight, a weakened immune system, and even cancer. Currently, Pennsylvania allows up to 70 parts per trillion (ppt) of PFAS in drinking water, but new research suggests that number is too high. To address this issue, I will be introducing legislation to lower the acceptable amount of PFAS in drinking water to 10 ppt. Every Pennsylvanian has a constitutional right to clean drinking water and should not fear that something so basic and necessary to life is slowly poisoning them. Please join me in support of this important legislation. |
