MEMORANDUM

Posted: April 26, 2021 12:25 PM
From: Representative Patrick J. Harkins
To: All House members
Subject: Covid-19 Grocery Store Worker Safety Act

As we have seen during the outbreak of COVID-19 across the Commonwealth, front line workers within grocery stores and pharmacies play a crucial role in keeping life sustaining businesses open and operational as well as keeping Pennsylvania families safe and fed in times of crisis.

In the near future I will introduce legislation to ensure that these employees have safe working conditions that support them and their families while also reducing the threat of community spread of infectious diseases. This legislation will include a codification of best practices to protect workers and limit exposure and spread of infectious diseases such as COVID-19.

These practices include social distancing of employees and customers, the use of barriers to decrease contact, store cleaning practices, employee access to hygiene stations and hand sanitizer, paid leave for sick employees, and protocols for the treatment of employees who have contact with COVID-19 within the work place.

Please join me in sponsoring this important legislation to help protect some of our lowest paid workers who are keeping our households and this economy moving during this difficult time.

Introduced as HB1550
