Subject: | Tenant Protections for Medical Cannabis Patients |
Medical cannabis has assisted many people in our Commonwealth with conditions such as epilepsy and cancer. However, tenants with a legal prescription for medical cannabis may still be evicted for using or having medicinal cannabis in their homes. We must ensure that those who rely on medical cannabis can feel safe and use their prescribed medicine without fear. To protect tenants with a medical cannabis prescription, I will be introducing legislation amending the Medical Marijuana Act. This bill will protect tenants that are prescribed medical cannabis and ensure they can legally use medical cannabis on the property without being evicted. This bill provides that no landlord may evict, threaten to evict, or otherwise discriminate against a residential tenant for the usage or possession of medical cannabis if the tenant is certified to use the medicine. As representatives, we have a duty to protect tenants in our Commonwealth that rely on medical cannabis as a treatment for a variety of conditions. Please join me in co-sponsoring this important legislation. |
