Subject: | Extend Local Tax Filing Dates |
Because of a glitch in the Local Tax Enabling Law, local tax filing deadlines do not necessarily coincide with the filing deadlines for state or federal income taxes - especially if state or federal filing deadlines are extended. This discrepancy is unnecessarily confusing for taxpayers and could result in unanticipated late filings and penalties. As you can imagine, this is especially problematic given the federal and state tax filing extensions that have been granted because of COVID-19.
Therefore, I will be introducing legislation that synchronizes local tax filing deadlines with the state personal income tax filing deadline. My bill will also include a safe harbor provision that protects taxpayers from penalties if they filed their local taxes late this year.
I hope you will join me in protecting taxpayers by supporting this bill. |
