MEMORANDUM

Posted: April 5, 2021 02:04 PM
From: Representative Eric Davanzo
To: All House members
Subject: Amend Article IX of the Pennsylvania Constitution

In the near future I plan on introducing legislation that will amend Article IX of the Pennsylvania Constitution create a new provision that would allow the General Assembly to establish an attendance policy for members of elected municipal governing boards. Across the state there have been many cases of elected officials refusing to attend regularly scheduled public meetings and perform the duties that they were elected to carry out, with no remedy to remove them from office and replace them with someone that is willing to carry out their duties.

This Constitutional Amendment and the subsequent legislation will provide a much needed tool to municipal governments to deal with elected officials that refuse to do the job that they were elected to perform.

I hope you will join me in co-sponsoring this important legislation.

Introduced as HB1217
