Subject: Homeschooled Students Given the Same Access as Public School Students

In the near future, I plan to introduce legislation that would ensure all homeschooled students are given the same access as public school students to an area career and technical school.

Currently, under Pennsylvania law, homeschool students do not have a right to participate in a career and technical program offered through their local school district. A school district may allow a homeschool student to participate, however, this is based on each school district’s individual policy. This results in a homeschool student’s access to an area career and technical school dependent on which district they reside in, leaving some homeschool students unable to attend a career and technical school.

My legislation would allow a homeschool student, who has been accepted to an area career and technical, to attend that school, with or without their local school district’s consent. It is important that all Pennsylvania students have access to career and technical education.

Please join me in co-sponsoring this legislation.
