Subject: | Children Sports Programs Pertaining to Masks |
In the near future I will be introducing legislation pertaining to children having to wear masks while playing sports. Specifically, my legislation will give the decision power as to whether children under 18 participating in sports should wear a mask, to the organizations that run children’s sports programs. Studies throughout the pandemic have shown that it is rare for children under 18 (who do not have underlying health conditions) to develop severe illness due to COVID-19 as well as spread the virus. Children also account for 0.00% - 0.19% of all COVID-19 deaths in the U.S. according to the American Academy of Pediatrics. Most importantly however, studies have also concluded (such as one by leading German cardiologists published in May 2020) that medical face masks have a marked negative impact on cardiopulmonary capacity that significantly impairs strenuous physical and occupational activities. Ventilation, cardiopulmonary exercise capacity and comfort are reduced by surgical masks and highly impaired by FFP2/N95 face masks in healthy individuals. Our children deserve to enjoy playing sports unencumbered and free from the negative effects masks have while engaging in physical activities. I ask you to please join me in supporting this legislation. |
