Subject: | Allowing Payment Schedules as Proof of Claim for PTRR |
The Property Tax and Rent Relief program is a crucial program to help keep those with little to no income in their homes. However, due to current law, those who are in most need of this assistance are often denied for relief due to being behind on their property taxes. Therefore, I intend to reintroduce legislation addressing this problem, allowing individuals who have a payment plan schedule for their property taxes and are making a good-faith effort to repay them to still be eligible for property tax relief. Too many times, I have had constituents—the majority of them seniors- come to my office in need of Property Tax Rent Relief, but are ineligible due to being behind on their taxes. While we all recognize the heavy burden that property taxes can be on Pennsylvania’s citizens, we have a duty to find ways to ease the burden on those who – despite their best efforts – may still be unable to receive a Property Tax Rent Rebate because they are delinquent on a previous tax bill. Please join me in co-sponsoring this important legislation to provide some relief to those taxpayers that are making a sincere effort to pay their fair share to their local taxing authority. |
