MEMORANDUM

Posted: March 1, 2021 04:05 PM
From: Representative Christopher B. Quinn
To: All House members
Subject: State Fire Commissioners Act 13 Funding (Former HB2780)

Each year the Office of the State Fire Commissioner receives $750,000 from the Unconventional Gas Well Fund to train and equip first responders to address emergencies relating to natural gas wells. These funds are necessary to prepare for unexpected accidents that occur, as well as better equip and train those in our communities that keep us safe.

When Act 13 was initially drafted the yearly funds were not earmarked to assist with emergencies relating to natural gas pipelines. With an increase in gas pipelines throughout the Commonwealth, both big and small, enabling the Office of the State Fire Commissioner to utilize these funds to address emergencies related to the pipelines themselves, not just the wells, is more pertinent than ever.

I ask that you please join me in amending Act 13 to allow Unconventional Gas Well Funds to be allocated by the Office of the State Fire Commissioner to address gas pipeline related emergencies so that we can assure a safe and prosperous future.

Introduced as HB1250
