MEMORANDUM

Posted: February 25, 2021 11:42 AM
From: Representative Christopher B. Quinn
To: All House members
Subject: Tax Credits For Volunteer First Responders (Former HB160)

In the near future, I plan on reintroducing House Bill 160 from last session. This legislation establishes a Volunteer First Responder Education Tax Credit Program to assist Pennsylvania’s active volunteer first responders with access to a higher education.

If enacted, this legislation will provide a scholarship of up to $5,000 per active volunteer first responder to attend a Pennsylvania institution of higher learning.

As we know, recruitment and retention of volunteer first responders in our community is very vital and currently is suffering from the ability to recruit and maintain volunteers. At one time, the Commonwealth had over 350,000 volunteer first responders, and currently there are only 49,000. We all depend on these hard working and dedicated volunteer first responders on a daily basis to protect our citizens.

Please consider sponsoring this legislation to assist our volunteer first responders.

Introduced as HB1485
