MEMORANDUM

Posted: February 3, 2021 10:04 AM
From: Representative Robert Freeman
To: All House members
Subject: Resolution directing the Legislative Budget and Finance Committee to study feasibility of providing passenger rail service between Allentown-Bethlehem-Easton and New York City

In the near future, I will be introducing a resolution that will direct the Legislative Budget and Finance Committee to study the feasibility of providing passenger rail service between Allentown-Bethlehem-Easton and New York City.

Establishing passenger service between Allentown-Bethlehem-Easton and New York City would benefit economic development efforts in the Lehigh Valley, as the Lehigh Valley is projected to experience significant job growth over the next three decades, due in part to the completion of recently proposed regionally significant projects. The Lehigh Valley’s proximity to New York City also makes it an ideal location for back office space for major New York based firms and as potential residential area for commuters. Rail service would facilitate the potential of these objectives and benefit Pennsylvania’s economic growth.

Please join me in cosponsoring this resolution.
