MEMORANDUM

Posted: January 21, 2021 12:33 PM
From: Representative Ed Neilson
To: All House members
Subject: Protecting Consumer Information and Privacy (Formerly HB 1049)

Today’s consumer has their personal information collected with every online transaction. Yet, we often have no idea exactly how our data is being used or even if it may be sold to a third party. Not only do consumers have a right to privacy, they deserve to know what is being collected and/or sold.

My legislation would require all businesses to notify consumers of what personal information is collected and if it will be sold. In addition, businesses must provide consumers with the choice to “opt out,” preventing their information from being sold or requiring their information to be deleted should they choose.

Protecting the privacy of Pennsylvania consumers is paramount to ensuring consumer’s personal data remains secure. Please consider supporting this legislation to safeguard the personal data of our citizens, crucial in today’s technological world.

Introduced as HB1126
