Subject: Freezing Nurse License Fee Increases (former HB2956)

The COVID-19 pandemic has created tough financial times for so many families across Pennsylvania, causing many families to closely watch their finances. With that thought in mind, when nurse license rate increases were approved in 2019 for 2020, no one could have predicted the pandemic and the chaos it has created. Our nurses who are working on the front lines do not need the extra financial burden of paying a 100% increase for their license renewal fee during these difficult times.

The legislation I am introducing to remedy this problem is simple. My bill will temporarily waive the fee increase for nurses and other related health professionals during the COVID-19 crisis and the six months following the suspension of the disaster declaration. Nurses and other medical professionals are on the front lines caring for patients with COVID-19 and ensuring that our medical offices and hospitals continue to function. Pennsylvania would not be able to weather this storm without them.

The General Assembly must act swiftly to ensure that licensure fee increases are not pushed off onto these essential workers. Please join me in co-sponsoring this important legislation to protect our Pennsylvania nurses and healthcare workers.

Introduced as HB744
