Subject: | Contraband in Prisons |
The opioid epidemic has affected so many aspects of our society, including an incredible influx of contraband illegal drugs into our prisons. These drugs not only destabilize the prison environment, making it more dangerous for our corrections officers, but also prey upon the most vulnerable of the inmates who may be trying to reform themselves. The Department of Corrections has had to take drastic measures to combat this influx. I would like your support as I propose one more. I intend to re-introduce House Bill 445 which will require that all violations of the current contraband criminal offenses observed by corrections officers and parole agents have to be reported to the Pennsylvania State Police. Doing so will ensure that these violations are investigated and prosecuted – as well as ensuring that the full scope of this problem is understood so that other measures can be employed where needed. I hope you will join me in supporting this bill. |
