Subject: | End the Waitlist for Vulnerable Pennsylvanians (formerly HB1508) |
Pennsylvanians with disabilities and older adults are two of our most vulnerable populations. Home- and community-based services (HCBS) waivers under our Medicaid program are one way in which we ensure Pennsylvanians with disabilities and older adults get the care they need. Yet, thousands of these individuals are forced to wait – some for years at a time – to receive their HCBS waiver benefits. This is unacceptable. As elected leaders, we have a moral obligation to put the people first. This is why I plan to introduce legislation to require that Pennsylvanians deemed eligible for the HCBS waiver program receive their HCBS waiver benefits no later than 90 days after eligibility for Medicaid. This will virtually end the HCBS waiver waitlist and enable the most vulnerable among us to access essential, long-awaited care. We cannot neglect our duty to fight for the rights of those who cannot advocate for themselves. I hope you will join me in correcting this injustice and support this important legislation. All Pennsylvanians deserve proper care. |
