House of Representatives
Session of 2021 - 2022 Regular Session

MEMORANDUM

Posted: January 12, 2021 02:21 PM
From: Representative David H. Zimmerman and Rep. Andrew Lewis
To: All House members
Subject: Hedgehogs and Sugar Gliders – Ownership or Possession of “Pocket Pets” (Prior HB 2347 – 19/20 Session)

In the near future, I will introduce legislation which would allow for the ownership or possession of certain “pocket pets,” namely hedgehogs and sugar gliders, to be kept as pets in Pennsylvania.

Currently in Pennsylvania, hedgehogs and gliders are not listed as exempt exotic animals in the Game Commission’s statute.  The Game Commission supports exempting these animals from the statute to allow the citizens of Pennsylvania to have them as pets.  Almost every other state in the nation allows these harmless tiny creatures (similar to a gerbil, hamster, etc.) to be kept as pets.

Please consider cosponsoring this piece of legislation.

Introduced as HB769
