Subject: | Clarifying the Law on Sunday Hunting |
By allowing hunting on a Sunday that directly follows a federal holiday, other outdoor enthusiasts are inadvertently unable to or are fearful of journeying into nature. Horseback riders, birders, hikers, mountain bikers, and others often spend their time outdoors when they are off work. They share nature and enjoy a sense of safety. While I have no doubt that Pennsylvania’s hunters are studious in their outdoor ethics, accidents do occur, as with any sport or activity. To minimize this risk, I am introducing legislation clarifying our Sunday hunting law. My bill maintains the authority of the Pennsylvania Game Commission (PGC) to institute one-day of Sunday hunting during rifle deer season while stipulating that this cannot be on a Sunday directly following a federal holiday. This will not interfere with hunting during archery deer season or another day of Sunday hunting at the PGC’s discretion. I hope you will join me in support of this important legislation. |
