| Subject: | Extending the 2019 Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program Application Deadline |
| In recent months, dozens of my constituents have contacted my office to request assistance with the Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program application process. Many of these applicants have come to my office in previous years for assistance in filling out their applications in person, but the pandemic has upended this process. Many seniors have struggled to complete the application during the pandemic, especially because of technological barriers, and some were unable to file before the December 31, 2020 deadline. My proposal would help our constituents who face financial difficulties and are often at increased risk because of COVID-19. This legislation would extend the Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program application period for an additional six months to give applicants another opportunity to navigate a process that has become more complicated because of the pandemic.
