|Subject:||School Violence Report|
|Recently, I have been alarmed at the amount of school violence reported in the media. Incidents in our schools involving deadly weapons, fights among students, and illegal drug use are all troubling. Schools are required to submit reports to the state documenting school violence incidents, but they are only filed on an annual basis, by July 31 of each year.
I will be reintroducing HB 1657 from last session, which would require the school violence report be filed on a quarterly basis instead. It is important for the Department of Education, law enforcement, and the legislature to be aware of violence in our schools promptly, and I hope you will join me in making this small but effective change.
Introduced as HB312
