MEMORANDUM

Posted: December 21, 2020 02:10 PM
From: Representative Jack Rader, Jr.
To: All House members
Subject: Dedicated Municipal Property Tax for Police Departments - Boroughs, incorporated Towns & Cities

Currently, municipalities are authorized to dedicate up to three mills of their property taxes to support fire companies and one-half mill to support ambulance corps.  In the near future, I will be introducing legislation that authorizes municipalities to dedicate up to three mills to support their municipal police department following a referendum.

Many municipal boards are unsure of the public support for the additional expenses of starting or contracting with a municipal police department or regional department.  The referendum would ensure a local police department is something the residents support.

Please join me in cosponsoring this legislation and provide our municipal police departments with a dedicated funding stream.
