MEMORANDUM

Posted: December 17, 2020 03:32 PM
From: Representative Anthony M. DeLuca
To: All House members
Subject: Requiring Nursing Homes to Disclose COVID-19 Cases to Family Members

Recently, I have heard disturbing reports from families with loved ones in a nursing home who are unable to find out whether COVID-19 is present in the facility.

To remedy this, I will be introducing legislation requiring nursing homes to disclose the aggregate total number of COVID-19 cases that are present in the facility when this information is requested by a family member or individual who can make health care decisions on behalf of the nursing home resident. By limiting who can access this information, we strike an effective balance between patient privacy and information needed for health care decision-making.

As COVID-19 continues to ravage the senior population in nursing homes, we should be as transparent as possible with the families who have loved ones in those facilities. Please join me in ensuring loved ones have access to this information by supporting this legislation.
