MEMORANDUM

Posted: December 16, 2020 02:19 PM
From: Representative Isabella V. Fitzgerald
To: All House members
Subject: Firearm Safe Storage Requirements

In the United States, 1.7 million children live in a home with at least one loaded, unlocked firearm. Most unintentional shooting fatalities among children occur when a child is playing with a loaded gun while the child’s parents are absent. Despite the dangers associated with firearms that are not properly stored, 54% of firearm owners admitted that they do not safely store all their firearms.

My legislation requires that all firearms be safely stored whenever they are not in use to ensure that guns do not fall into the wrong hands. Please join me in protecting our children from the dangers of firearms without impeding on any individual’s Second Amendment rights.

Introduced as HB699
