Subject: | Mandating Insurance Coverage for COVID-19-related Medical Interventions |
For nearly a year, Pennsylvanians have been dealing with the economic, social, and medical ramifications of the COVID-19 pandemic. While our legislature has attempted to provide relief in these core areas, there is always more that we can do. One protection that must be extended to each resident of the Commonwealth is a safeguard from the debilitating costs related to COVID-19. Fear of incurring medical debt should not and cannot be a factor that inhibits individuals from seeking necessary and lifesaving care. To ensure that every citizen in this great Commonwealth receives such protections, I am introducing a bill (HB 2959 of last session) that would mandate insurance coverage for all costs related to COVID-19 testing, therapies, and preventions, without patient cost-sharing. When passed, this policy will enable Pennsylvanians to seek care for COVID-19 without contributing out-of-pocket payments. Safeguarding individuals from crippling medical debt, on top of the other economic costs associated with this pandemic, should remain a top priority. Please join me in supporting the health of communities throughout Pennsylvania by co-sponsoring this legislation. The people of Pennsylvania deserve access to treatment and prevention options that do not create an added financial burden. |
