| Subject: | Non-Opioid Pain Management |
| Proliferating opioid use has produced a public health crisis that claims lives daily and affects every community in the Commonwealth. While these potent medications have a medical practicality, there is a clear need for non-opioid alternatives for pain management. Achieving equal coverage for non-opioid treatments of pain management would reduce the risk of exposure and reliance on these highly addictive drugs. Patients should be given the choice to adopt healthier options for pain relief. As such, I am introducing legislation that will provide insurance coverage for evidence-based non-opioid treatments for pain management. Furthermore, my bill will require these therapies to be considered the same as more traditional treatments when assessing out-of-pocket costs and billing rates. By helping to mitigate the opioid crisis we help to reduce the burden on our healthcare system and strengthen our communities. Please join me in supporting this effort by recognizing that there can be more sensible options than to simply overly-medicate pain treatments. |
