MEMORANDUM

Posted: December 5, 2020 05:45 PM
From: Representative Dan L. Miller
To: All House members
Subject: Accessible Prescription Drug Labels

Individuals with visual impairments who have difficulty reading typical prescription drug labels all too often report inadvertently taking the wrong medication, mixing prescriptions or taking the incorrect dosage, and being unable to detect pharmacy errors. This can put people at risk.

As such, I plan to re-introduce legislation in the near future that will require pharmacies to make accessible prescription drug container labels available to individuals who are deafblind and visually-impaired when requested. These labels will be available, at no cost to the consumer, in audio, braille, and large font formats. This measure is modeled off of the best practices released by the United States Access Board in 2013, and will enable visually-impaired individuals to manage their medications securely, independently, and privately.

Please join me in co-sponsoring this legislation and ensuring that all residents of our Commonwealth can safely access their important prescription information.
