Subject: | Extending Automobile Lemon Law Coverage to Motorcycles |
Pennsylvania has a history of protecting consumers from product defects, ensuring its citizens a fair deal when purchasing goods. Yet, protection for those purchasing a new motorcycle in Pennsylvania remains limited to warranties or is nonexistent. While automobile purchasers are shielded from faulty products by the Automobile Lemon Law, those purchasing motorcycles are not. It is time we extend these protections to motorcycles. My legislation will add coverage for motorcycles under the Automobile Lemon Law. The law requires a manufacturer to fix any default which substantially impairs the use, value, or safety of the vehicle during the first year of ownership. This measure is critical to the safety of motorcycle riders and the motoring public. We cannot allow potentially problematic, unsafe vehicles to inhabit our roadways. Consumers purchasing motorcycles in the Commonwealth should not be left to pay out of pocket or attempt to self-repair issues that would have been covered had the vehicle been an automobile. They deserve the same protection afforded car buyers. I ask you to join me in co-sponsoring this legislation to better protect Pennsylvania’s motorcycle purchasers. |
