Subject: | Recognizing “Obsessive Compulsive Disorder Awareness Week” in Pennsylvania |
Currently, over 3.5 million United States citizens suffer from Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), half a million of which are children. This mental illness affects individuals of all races, ethnicities, and backgrounds and involves a repetitive, uncontrollable cycle of obsessive thoughts and compulsive behaviors. While researchers believe genetic predisposition and neurological miscommunication contribute to the disorder, a definitive cause remains unknown. Increasing awareness of OCD and acknowledging the importance of access to effective treatment is imperative. This resolution will recognize the week of October 11 through 17, 2020, as “OCD Awareness Week” in Pennsylvania. We ask that you join us in co-sponsoring this resolution. |
